Massimo Roma was born in Albano Laziale (Rome), Italy, on 1965. He received the “Laurea” degree in Mathematics (summa cum laude) from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” on October 1988. He received the Ph.D. degree in Operations Research from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” on October 1995.From August 1, 1996 to December 31, 2004 he was Researcher of Operations Research at the Department of Computer and Systems Science “A. Ruberti" (now Department of Computer, Control, and Management Engineering)  of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.From January 1, 2005 he is Associate Professor of Operations Research at the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Computer, Control, and Management Engineering  “A. Ruberti”, of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.He currently teaches in the first and second level degrees in “Management Engineering” and in “Computer Engineering" of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. He usually is the tutor of several first and second level degree thesis. His research interests concern Nonlinear Optimization, focusing on the development of methods and algorithms for the solution of nonlinear optimization problems. In particular, he provided recognized contributions both from the theoretical and the computational point of view to large scale unconstrained optimization. Other topics of the research activity regarded global optimization and the solutin of constrained optimization problems with a particular structure. Finally, an important aspect of the research concerned the application of optimization and simulation models for the solution of real world problems. He is author of several papers on these topics published on international journals, on edited volumes and on conference proceedings. He is the author of a section of the Encyclopedia of Optimization:M. Roma: Large scale unconstrained optimization, in C. Floudas, P.Pardalos (eds.), Encyclopedia of Optimization, Springer, 2009.In the years 1996—1997 he took part in the international UK-Italy (British Council-Italian Ministry of University and Research) research program “Exploiting negative curvature in large scale nonlinear programming”.Since 1994 he takes part in several research program of national interest in the field of Nonlinear Optimization funded by the Ministry of University and Research. In the years 1997—2003 he was scientific consultant at the Institute of Systems Analysis and Computer Science (IASI) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Rome. From 1995 to 2013, every three years, he is co-organizer of international Workshops on Nonlinear Optimization in the framework of the International School of Mathematics “G. Stampacchia”, at the Center for Scientific culture “E. Majorana” in Erice (TP), Italy. He is co-editor of the proceedings of the Workshop held in 2004published in the volume:G. Di Pillo, M. Roma (Eds.): Large Scale Nonlinear Optimization, Series “Nonconvex Optimization and its Applications”, vol. 83, Springer, 2006.He is co-editor of the special issues of the journal Computational Optimization and Applications devoted to the Workshops held in Erice in 2007, 2010 and 2013.He is co-author of the work  '"Optimal Deployment of a cruise fleet" awarded as AIRO Best Application 2015 by the Italian Operations Research Society.
