Roberto Baldoni

Full Professor

Roberto Baldoni conducts research (from theory to practice) in the fields of distributed, pervasive and p2p computing, middleware platforms and information systems infrastructure with a specific emphasis on dependability and security aspects (here for a biographical sketch or the complete cv) . He is the founder of MIDdleware LABoratory (MIDLAB) and he has been PI of many national and european research projects. A partial list of his publications can be found at DBLP, at Scholar Google and at MIDLAB publication repository. Roberto Baldoni has been visiting researcher at INRIA, Cornell Univ. and EPFL. He regularly participates and chairs committees of premiership international conferences and workshops. Recently he has been PC co-chair of SRDS 2007, and General Chair of DEBS 2008. In 2009, he is the PC chair of the track "Reliable and Dependable Systems" of ICDCS 2009. In 2011, Roberto Baldoni will organize DISC in Rome. Roberto Baldoni is vice-chair of the IEEE committee on Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance, member of the IFIP WG 10.4, member of the steering committees of ACM DEBS, and member of the editorial boad of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems.

At the EU level, he regularly serves as an expert for the EU commission in the evaluation of EU projects in the security&dependability, embedded systrems and e-gov areas was a member of the Executive Board of the RESIST NoE. He has been:

• the coordinator person of the EU project SM4ALL whose aim is to develop middleware for intelligent houses; SM4ALL has been presnted at Shanghai's Expo 2010. Here some reportage from broadcasting networks: globo tv (in portuguese), channel 1 Russia (in russian), Rai3, TGR, and ability channel (in italian)
• Tecnical co-chair of the EU project CoMiFin on the protection of the financial infrastructure. The aim of CoMiFin is to develop a middleware for the protection of networked financial players from cyber attacks. Here a book published by Springer on Financial Infrastructure Protection.
• the Project Advisor of the EU project Greener Building on energy savings in public buildings started october 2010

He is the Director of the Sapienza Research Center on Cyber Intelligence and Information Security (CIS). It is a multidisciplinary center developing new knowledge and operational methodologies to gather relevant information from cyber and physical environments and to transform it through intelligence processes in enriched information that can be used to prevent incidents that can harm the society by creating at the same time smarter complex systems.

In the egovernment area, he participated to the working group for the definition of the next generation systems for italian e-government (Servizio Pubblico di Cooperazione) and currently Roberto is Director of the Master in Interoperability for Public Administration and networked enterprises.

At Sapienza University, he belongs to the Scientific Committee of Sapienza Innovazione the technology incubator of the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and he is the Sapienza representative at the "European Council for Doctoral Education".

At the Dipartimento di Informatica e Sistemistica Antonio Ruberti, Roberto Baldoni has been the Chair of the Ph.D Program in Computing Science and Engineering (Ingegneria Informatica) from 2008 to 2011 and currently he is the Chair of the Master and Bachelor Programs in Computing Science and Engineering at Sapienza.

He is recipient of the ACM service of recognition Award(2002), the Service2Business Award (2010), the IBM Faculty Award (2010) and the EPTS innovation Award (2011).

He has been the advisor of Carlo Marchetti (Senato della Repubblica Italiana), Antonino Virgillito (Istituto Nazionale di Statistica), Sara Tucci Piergiovanni (Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique), Alessia Milani (Université de Bordeaux), Leonardo Querzoni (Università di Roma "La Sapienza"), Adnan Noor Mian (Pakistan University of Computer and Emerging Sciences), Sirio Scipioni (SELEX-SI), Silvia Bonomi (Università di Roma "La Sapienza").
