About me

Sketch
I love my wife Irene and my son Alessandro (on the right). I owe a lot to my parents Mihaela and Camilian and to Irene's parents Marina and Agostino. My younger brother Emanuel is a great guy who has taught me many things over the years. I also owe a lot to Franco Giorchino, who died on March 21, 2000. My friends Ivano Carosi and Vincenzo Flore have a special place in my heart. irene alessandro alessandro
I love challenging problems in theoretical computer science, mathematics and programming.
I like travelling with Irene and taking pictures from all over the world. Here's a short movie (.mov file, 240x180, stereo, 7.8 MB) Irene and I have recently made at the gorgeous Antilope Canyon, Arizona, in the heart of the Navajo Nation.
I spend many hours a day listening to music. I am fascinated by the subtle complexity of Classical music (J.S. Bach, F. Mendelssohn, A. Vivaldi, L. Van Beethoven) and by the tribal power of Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Metallica, Y.J. Malmsteen, T. Mac Alpine). I'm also in love with Brazilian music. It would be really a long list to mention all the bands and composers that I like.

I play acoustic and electric guitar. I have a Jackson electric guitar, a Ramirez 1E classical guitar, and a Roland U20 keyboard. I also love piano, drums, and keyboards. Some years ago, my friend Ivano Carosi and I founded a band, called Still. Here's an excerpt from a demo we recorded in June 1992: [Revolution (bridge), 1:20, 758 KB, mp3, digitally remastered from an old low-quality tape]

I like films and theater. Some of my favourite films: Clockwork Orange (S. Kubrick), Blade Runner (R. Scott), Manhattan (W. Allen), La Strada (F. Fellini), Kill Bill (Q. Tarantino), Trainspotting (D. Boyle).
I like art (e.g., H. Memling, H. Bosch, L. Da Vinci, P. Della Francesca) and literature (e.g., I. Calvino, L. Pirandello).
I like computers (I have a Macintosh PowerBook G4 Titanium) and cars (I have a Rover 220 SDI). While in the US I've driven a Pontiac Grand AM (2300 Miles) and a Chevrolet Monte Carlo (1200 Miles). While in India I've driven a Tata Indica 1.4 (2000 Km).

Countries I have visited (airport stops don't count)
Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Roumania, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Tunisia, United States of America (Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Lousiana, Massachusets, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin), United Kingdom, Vatican City.
