In conjunction with the 9th International Conference on Database Theory (ICDT'03)

Rettorato dell'Universita' di Siena,
via Banchi di Sotto 55, Siena.

The problem of poor data quality processed by an information system is widespread in the industrial, government and academic environments. Only recently great attention has been paid on this topic by the scientific community. Motivations of this growing interest are due to the negative impact that a poor data quality has on the competitiveness of an organization.

Even though there are techniques and methodologies to improve data quality within a single autonomous system, up to now, there is little research dealing with data quality in cooperative environments. In cooperative scenarios main data quality issues are related with: 1) assessment of the quality of data owned by any participant organization; 2) methods and techniques for exchanging quality information; 3) improvement of quality in the overall environment; 4) data and system heterogeneity.

This workshop, promoted by the DaQuinCIS project (http://www.dis.uniroma1.it/~dq), aims at providing a forum to present the latest research results, new technology development and new applications in the area of data quality in cooperative and distributed environments. The following non-restrictive list is given to illustrate items of particular interest for this conference:

  • Quality-based data models
  • Data and information quality metrics
  • Methodologies
  • Reconciliation methods
  • Data cleaning
  • Data quality for statistical data
  • Data quality for geographical data
  • Document quality
  • Data quality in multimedia
  • Data quality certification

  • Quality-oriented services
  • Quality-oriented architectures
  • Cost models
  • Middleware Infrastructures
  • Data quality and semistuctured data
  • Data quality and e-services
  • Data quality in e-government
  • Quality improvement
  • Models for information quality relevance
