Modeling and control of epidemic spread

Epidemic modeling has become more and more important in the last years since it represents a useful instrument to study the evolution of epidemic spread to propose the best control strategy.

Dealing with epidemic modeling and control means referring to a large variety of practical cases in which the models can vary depending on the specificity of the pathology, on the kind of individuals involved,

on the characteristics of the epidemic diffusion, on the different kind and levels of intervention for an effective control action.

The possibility of testing different controls of such models could help in proposing the most effective strategy.

Epidemic spread modeling and control can be applied also to virus spread in networks with similar language and methodologies

 Among the epidemic spread studied there are: the SIRC,  the SIR, the HIV/AIDS




Bone remodeling

Bone tissue during skeletal growth continuously adjusts its mass and architecture to changing conditions; the bones must adapt their shape and architecture efficiently to provide rigid levers for muscles, remaining as light as possible. At the cell scale, new bone tissue is formed by osteoblasts, and resorbed by osteoclasts; it is hypothesized that the osteocytes control bone adaptation, acting as mechanosensors based on local loading conditions. The understanding and possibly predicting the adaptation properties of bones are important for surgical screws, artificial joints, fractures, and so on. Bone remodeling formulation may be described from two different points of view: considering local regulation at tissue and cellular level or assuming a global optimality of the bone structure.

Deviation from the remodeling equilibrium condition would initiate the remodeling activity, as homeostatic goal.



EEG signal analysis

 EEG signals are very informative and can be studied from different point of view.

In this research EEG signals obtained by self-induced emotional stimuli have been classified by using machine learning techniques suitably adapted to the specific signal and task



Eye Tracking

 The pupil morphological characteristics are of great interest for non invasive early diagnosis of the central nervous system response to environmental stimuli of different nature.

Their evaluation is important in subjects suffering some typical diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer disease, schizophrenia, drug and alcohol addiction.


Image analysis

  Image analysis is considered both from a methodological point of view, to propose new methodologies for a fast and efficient image segmentation,

and considering various applications, such as in material science, biomedical image recognition and analysis.
